Few events targeting public dissemination of secularism and atheism, so welcoming touches that gather here, encouraged by the association Atea Initiative and conducted by Luis Ledo: an exhibition whose purpose is to present some of the arguments, thoughts and ideas that are the basis for a more rational way of understanding reality. It is a coming-out proposal which took place this month in the English city of Santiago de Compostela, but has the desire to call at the more places the better. We shall inform you on time for your next locations. On the other hand, if you know of any space that was willing to accept them, you communicate here or directly to this blog. T and would greatly appreciate your help.
For more information, here's the press release issued about Atea Initiative:
with this title so suggestive, Atea Initiative, an international non profit profit, presents its Traveling Exhibition Atea in the Faculty of Philosophy of Santiago, which will take place during the month of March.
Santiago de Compostela is the first in a series of cities where you can visit the exhibition. This work, hitherto unpublished, is a collection of 44 films whose arguments sound claim to be the counterpoint to the tenets and religious teachings, creating a space that invites reflection.
According to the coordinator general of Atea Initiative, the aim with this exhibition is to bring the citizen's perception of religion from an atheist point of view. View reflects a much more widespread than it may seem, because the coverage is disproportionately high, that institutions give public presence and actions of the Catholic faith in public spaces. In a country where only 13% of its citizens meets their religious Catholics (INE data and CIS 2010), 74% of self-declared Catholics are far from reflecting a heavily religious society, since most are only name and tradition rather than by faith.
Many English citizens who want a secular country in which the decision to profess any religion or not profess any, is itself a constitutional right, an option accepted by society in a natural way, as befits the normal democratic life. But they also claim that religious denominations are maintained in strict private sector, without economic privileges, no tax exemptions or institutional coverage to any of them.
In a country where the government finances with our money, much of the costs of papal visits, which allows the Vatican to use Spain as a platform to send a message the world outdated , atheists looking for its part to convey a message of reason and freedom, without any commands. This work was supported by free-thinking people who see this message to society is required and necessary work.
The arguments over 44 films have been developed by Luis Ledo Regal, Atea Initiative partner and main sponsor of this work. Enlivened with humor through the characters of Martin JL (magazine "El Jueves"), the actual meaning of dogma and religious teachings have today is crude but intelligently exposed, free view of every visitor.
